I have always been patriotic, but this Memorial Day is different. This year my son graduates high school and will be going into the Air Force soon. Serving his country and protecting the liberties that we all take for granted.
Now I know that Memorial Day is to honor those who have died in service for our country. That is what made me think long and hard today about CJ’s going into the military. I have been thinking about all the families out there who will be remembering loved ones who died for their country tomorrow. All the widows, all the mothers who lost children, all the children who lost parents. I pray that I never have to get that call. I pray that I will never know that pain. I pray for those who do.
I remember all the men and women who served with my father in Vietnam. I remember all the men and women who served in World War II with my grandfather. I remember all the men and women who died in every single war the US has ever been involved in. I remember.
Tomorrow is not about picnics and 50% of sales at retailers (quite frankly I think it’s shameful for them to use the holiday as a way to make money). Tomorrow is not about raising prices at the grocery stores (I’m looking at you Safeway). Tomorrow is for you to remember and honor those who have fallen for this country.
