The last time I really stood out in a crowd? Well, I guess that depends on what you think to stand out means. I live in a small town. I believe that I stand out pretty much everywhere I go. Whether it’s my wacky PJ pants that I wear in public (because I’m about the comfort, not the fashion), the fact that I live in a prison town which is predominately Mormon and write erotica for a living and don’t care who knows it, or the fact that I’m the “girl with the sound issue”.
Standing out is not a bad thing. Too many people these days are worried about people noticing them, trying to fit in. That’s boring. You were born to stand out! Fitting in is overrated and stressful. If you want to wear fuzzy jammies to the store, do it. I rocked my Winnie the Pooh ones tonight at Walmart with a hoodie. Asked my kid if he wanted me to change before we left. His answer? Nope, you’re good. And he said so while wearing socks that didn’t match and his Red Lobster hat (where he got that I have no idea).
Just have to say that I love that about him. He is definitely his own person. Okay, back to standing out. If there is one thing that I have learned in my 36 years on this planet, it’s that no matter how hard you try there is always going to be someone that doesn’t like you or thinks that there is something wrong with you. You can’t please everyone. If you spend all your time trying, all you are gonna do is drive yourself nuts.
So live life how you want it and don’t be afraid to stand out!
