Have you ever been addicted to anything that distracted you from your goals? I have. I still am. When I get fixated on something it will drive me and everyone around me crazy. Currently I’m addicted to everything writing. You think that since I’m an author that would be a good thing, right? But no. Apparently, an addiction to writing software is not healthy. Lol. I’m also addicted to going paperless and finding the right tools to do so.
Now, I am an avid Evernote user and Evernote Certified Consultant. I eat, sleep, and breathe Evernote. So much so, that there have been a few times that my husband has looked at me like he wished I would just shut up about it. I don’t, but I know that’s what he is thinking. My youngest has a school laptop now, and the first thing I did was call the tech support department and make sure I could install Evernote on it. That is another post entirely. A positive post, but another post.
As far as my software addiction is concerned, the more I try to streamline, the more apps I find that do that one thing that other apps do. I seriously have a problem. I should go to meetings. If I don’t knock it off, the hubs may cut me off.
When it comes to writing softwware I have Scrivener, Ulysses, Blogo, Pages, and Word all installed on my MBP. I use all of them at some point or another. I wish that Pages was a bit more advanced, as I would use it primarily when I needed just a word processor. Another thing holdling me back from making that my daily driver is that Scrivener can’t import Pages documents like it does Word documents. That makes me sad. Not Scriveners fault though. It has something to do with the way Apple allows developers to use their API.
Blogo and Ulysses are predominately for blogging. While Blogo allows for Markdown type of writing, Ulysses just handles it so much better. Scrivener is in the mix for blogging as well. Sometimes I craft posts there and sometimes I don’t. But I always keep a copy of published posts in a blog project. It makes for a great archiving system.
What are your addictions? Are you a software whore like i am or do you have something else that you can’t get enough of?
