AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT - DE MCCLUSKEY

Sayre: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

DM: About 9 years ago when reading to my daughter in bed... I thought 'I could do that' and I did...

Sayre: How long does it take you to write a book?

DM: To write to book, I can get the first 90k word draft down in maybe 3 weeks.

Sayre: Does writing energize or exhaust you?

DM: Both... Sometimes I can write nonstop for hours and hours, other times Im done after an hour or so.

Sayre: What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

DM: I can, and prefer, to write in chaos... I can get more written in a bustling Macdonalds than I can in an empty house.

Sayre: Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

DM: My ideas really do fall into my head. A small event can spark a full idea.

Sayre: When did you write your first book and how old were you?

DM: 9 years ago I wrote and self published my first novel, The Twelve. I was 38.

Sayre: What do you like to do when you're not writing?

DM: Hiking, watching movies, reading... playing and listening to music

Sayre: Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer If so what are they?

DM: When people ask me how do I become a writer... I just tell them JFDI (its a little different from JEDI)

Sayre: What is your writing Kryptonite?

DM: my hideously dull and boring 9-5 job

Sayre: What other authors are you friends with and how do they help you become a better writer?

DM: I have a lot of indie friends, and we do communicate and talk about the wider issues of writing. Communication is everything.

Sayre: How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?

DM: hahah... I found out that writing a book doesn't NOT make you rich LOL. It also opened my eyes on the different techniques used for writing novels.

Sayre: Whats your favorite under-appreciated novel?

DM: Its a toss up between The Book Thief - Markus Zusak or Big Fish: a novel of mythic proportions - Daniel Wallace

Sayre: Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?

DM: Oh yeah... there are Easter eggs in a lot of my books

Sayre: What does literary success look like to you?

DM: not having to slave myself in my horrible 9-5 job

Sayre: Do you have any events or special things coming up?

DM: The final part of my Saga came out in December 2022. Throne of Glimm is the 3rd and final part of The Glimmer Saga. You can check it out on Amazon.
