Describe your relationship with your phone. Is it your lifeline, a buzzing nuisance, or something in between?

Oh Lord, my relationship with my phone. My unhealthy, obsessive-compulsive, love/hate relationship with my phone. The phone that, in all reality, hasn’t been a part of my life for too long. The phone that I have named like someone would name their car. (Her name is Lela, after my grandmother, by the way.)

My phone has become my lifeline, one of my best friends (I know that is sad, trust me), a necessity, a medical device, a tracker, and so much more. I use it for absolutely everything in every part of my life. So much so, that I’m not sure how the hell I functioned in life without it.

My husband always says that if a real-life version of Live Free or Die Hard were to happen, I would curl up in a ball and cease to function. I have always and will continue to adamantly deny that to his face. But… I know deep down that he is right. (Don’t tell him that, though).

Reflecting on this really makes you think about how you get wrapped up in all the technology, though. Our first computer was a Mac, and I was hooked. I think I was in Kindergarten at the time that my father brought it home and I got to help him set it up. IT WAS AMAZING!

I learned quickly and before you know it I was helping my mom learn how to use a new computer in her classroom. Dad built a few machines in his time that ran Windows and is still a Windows user. I have switched back to the Mac platform, the one that started it all for me.

When it comes to phones, I have had candy bar, “brick” phones with a thin flip that covered the mouthpiece, a few Nokia phones where you could switch the faceplate out (omg, I thought the ability to do that was the end all, be all of my life at the time), Sidekicks, Androids and now iPhones. I have had every one since the 4 came out and can’t see ever going back to anything else in the foreseeable future.

I would love to know how you got started with technology and what you feel your relationship with your phone is like.
